Introduction:

Strategic planning is an essential component of any successful healthcare organization. As a medical professor, I have been assigned to design and evaluate a strategic plan assignment for college medical students. The assignment is focused on developing a strategic plan for a healthcare organization or business that the students are passionate about. In this answer, I will provide guidance on the first component of the assignment, which is the organizational structure.

Answer:

The first step in developing a strategic plan for a healthcare organization is to understand its governing structure. The students should identify the healthcare organization they want to focus on and research its mission, vision, and key values. This information is crucial in developing a strategic plan that aligns with the organization’s overall goals and objectives.

Next, the students should analyze the framework of a strategic plan. They should describe the strategic planning model that the healthcare organization uses. It is important to understand the strategic planning process to develop a plan that is effective in achieving the organization’s goals.

The students should evaluate the relationship between the strategic plan and the healthcare organization’s mission, vision, and values. They should describe the organizational structure of the chosen healthcare organization and identify the current key leaders and their roles. Furthermore, the students should describe the change management model that the healthcare organization uses, which is essential in implementing the strategic plan.

The students should also analyze the impact of governance on the implementation of strategic goals. They should consider the role of the Board of Directors in the formation of strategic goals. This will help the students understand how the Board of Directors influences the organization’s strategic direction.

Finally, the students should analyze the healthcare organization’s major service delivery and support activities in its value chain. The students should include the location, target market, programs and services, clinical operations, marketing, billing, follow-up, organizational culture, and strategic resources in their analysis. The students should also analyze how the organization uses its value chain to implement its strategic plan.

In conclusion, developing a strategic plan for a healthcare organization requires a thorough understanding of its governing structure, strategic planning model, change management model, and Board of Directors. Analyzing the healthcare organization’s value chain will help the students understand how the organization delivers its products and services and how it aligns its resources to achieve its strategic goals.
